The Student Well-being and Development Committee was formed in 2009 to provide opportunities for all round development of students It comprises mainly the former student  development committee and student management committee, NYAA committee,  EAGLES committee and YOG committee.

The vision and mission for the newly formed committee are as follow:

Vision : To develop students into righteous, compassionate, persevering, respectful and responsible members of society.

Mission : To help students in character building and career development through social emotional learning and partnership with community.

 

The committee is entrusted with the following programmes:

A            Student Development Programme

  • Structured leadership development

-       To provide leadership opportunities for all students during the 4 years in school.

-       To organize trainings for class committee, Peer Support Leaders (PSL) and Youth Achievers’ Committee (YAC).

 

  • Teaching of life skills which aligns with school values and SEL competencies
  • Personal & interpersonal effectiveness
  • Sexuality education
  • Cyber-wellness Programme
  • Financial Literacy
  • Modular programmes and enrichment activities

- Goal Setting Exercise

- Class Beautifying Day

- Commendation Day

- Incentive programme for graduating students

- Graduation Ball

 

  • Structured Career Guidance Programme (Educational and career planning)
  • E-Career Portal (awareness and exploration)

 

B            Student Management Programme

  • Intervention and Monitoring through Restorative Practice and Restorative Justice
    • Level meetings
    • Student Council Board
    • Personal Effectiveness courses in SEL domain for  all teachers
  • Evaluation (Rewards and Encouragement)
    • Best Class Award and Model Students
    • Good Deed card / Commendation Card & Letter
  • Emotional and behavioural management
  • Counselling Framework

-  Counselling students with emotional and behavioural problems

-  Engaging family centres and other voluntary welfare organisations

  • STEP-UP Programme for selected students

  • Rising Star Programme; a collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnics

D            Partnership and collaboration

  • Parents Day and Meet-the-Parents Sessions
  • Close partnership with Parent Support Group (PSG)
  • School Family Education (SFE) Programme for parents
  • Collaborations with industry partners, institute of higher learning (IHLs), MOE,  NIE and community
  • Financial assistance from various charitable organizations, MCYS, South West CDC and MOE funds

The ‘three petals flower’ illustrates how the various programmes work together to help students in character building and career development through social emotional learning and partnership with community.

Key note achievement for the committee this year is the Character Development Award (2009 – 2011).
