3rd National Earthquake Competition and Clean Water Challenge
|
National Earthquake competition:
The competition aims to generate students’ interests in the design of earthquake-resistant buildings and earthquake disaster mitigation. It involves student teams using MDF (Medium Density Fibre) timber strips and boards, glue and cotton strings to design and fabricate models of earthquake-resistant buildings.
On the day of competition, models were tested on a 2-Dimensional Earthquake Simulator to determine the winners according to the technical specifications and competition rules.
Clean Water Challenge 2011:
Sanitation and clean water are the main concerns in an earthquake aftermath. Therefore the continuation of supply of clean and drinkable water will be of utmost important.
The Clean Water Challenge aims to promote interest in water technology. The participating teams will be given some filter materials to build their DIY water filtration system. Criteria were based on effectiveness of the system to remove fine particles and colour from water.

Electricity Enrichment Programme for Sec 2 @ NP
|
Home Electricity Supply- How is electricity distributed in our homes?
In our home, we often take for granted that electricity is available whenever we switch on a light.
In this session, students will discover how the fluorescent light works;the types of cables used in our homes and learn to connect a three-pin plug. They will also learn how electricity are monitored and measured in our homes.
This programme complements the classroom learning where students explore the delivery and uses of electricity in our homes, the measuring of electrical energy consumption and calculation on costs of electricity, dangers of electricity and the adoption of safety measures in the use of electricity at home.
